John Big Tree
Chief John Big Tree , born Isaac Johnny John (born June 2, 1877 in Michigan , † July 6, 1967 in the Onondaga Indian Reservation ) was an American actor and member of the Seneca Nation of New York.
Life
In 1915, John first worked as an actor in the production of the film Author! Author! With. During the production of the next film, The Cactus Blossom , he took the stage name Chief John Big Tree.
Numerous productions followed in which he participated. Among other things, he was also seen in the films Der große Treck (1930) and Fighting Caravans (1931) from the Lone Star series. In 1939 he met Shirley Temple in the production of the film Miss Winnetou , where he played an Indian chief at her side.
His most important film appearances include the role of the chief Pony That Walks in the film Der Teufelshauptmann (1949), which was also his penultimate film. With the film Curse of the Blood from 1950, he said goodbye to the film business.
He is said to have once stood for the sculptor James Earle Fraser for the " Indian Head Nickel ".
In 1964 he appeared on the cover of Esquire .
