John Syme Duncan Blackwood (born January 25, 1935 in Cronberry , Cumnock ) is a retired Scottish football player .

Career

Blackwood came in October 1958 on the recommendation of Scout Peter Devlin of the Scottish amateur club Girvan Juniors to Accrington Stanley in the Football League Third Division . After the sale of the regular left half- forward Wattie Dick (who moved to Bradford Park Avenue together with Ray Byrom ), Blackwood made his debut on Boxing Day 1958 against Halifax Town . At the end of the season he was reamateurized, but played his last game for Accrington in October 1959 when he scored a goal in a 3-4 loss to Norwich City . In November 1959, he and teammate David Toward , another Accrington amateur player, signed a professional contract with league rivals York City , but did not play a competitive game there until he left a month later.
