John Bonar

John Bonar (born July 10, 1886 , † March 28, 1963 in Los Angeles ) was an American production designer who was once nominated for an Oscar for best production design.

Life

Bonar first worked in 1944 on Richard Thorpe's revue film Mein Schatz ist ein Sailor (Two Girls and a Sailor) with June Allyson , Gloria DeHaven and Van Johnson as a set designer in the production of a film.

For the film Das Bildnis des Dorian Gray (The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1945) based on the novel of the same name by Oscar Wilde , which was his second and last collaboration in a film production, Bonar was together with Cedric Gibbons , Hans O. Peters , Edwin B. Willis and Hugh Hunt nominated for an Oscar for Best Production Design in a Black and White Film. In the literary film adaptation directed by Albert Lewin , George Sanders and Lowell Gilmore also played the leading roles alongside Hurd Hatfield as 'Dorian Gray' .
