Gloria Mildred DeHaven (born July 23, 1925 in Los Angeles , California - † July 30, 2016 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American film actress who was under contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer . Her active time as an actress lasted from 1936 to 2000.

life and career

Gloria DeHaven was born the daughter of actor and filmmaker Carter DeHaven (1886-1977) and actress Flora Parker DeHaven (1883-1950). The parents appeared as actors in vaudeville entertainment theaters. DeHaven began her career as a child in 1936 with a supporting role in Charlie Chaplin's film Modern Times , where she played the little sister of Paulette Goddard . A contract was signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, but except for supporting roles in films such as The Thin Man Returns Home (1945) and Summer Stock (1950) DeHaven achieved no lasting fame as a film star . In 1950 she played her own mother in the Fred Astaire musical film Three Little Words .

DeHaven later appeared as a regular in several American TV soap operas and was a guest star in numerous television series such as West of Santa Fé , Smoking Colts , Fantasy Island , Hart but cordially , Love Boat , An Angel on Earth , Murder is Her Hobby and A Breath from heaven .

DeHaven has been married four times. Her first marriage to actor John Payne lasted from 1944 to 1950. This marriage was the result of her daughter Kathleen Hope (* 1945) and her son Thomas John Payne (* 1947). DeHaven's second marriage to Martin Kimmell between 1953 and 1954 remained childless. She was married twice to her third husband Richard Fincher, from 1957 to 1963 and from 1965 to 1969. Richard Fincher gave birth to her son Harry (* 1958) and daughter Faith (* 1962).

Gloria DeHaven died on July 30, 2016, at the age of 91, in a Las Vegas hospice after suffering a stroke three weeks earlier .

For her contributions to the film industry, DeHaven received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (6933 Hollywood Blvd).
