Yank, the Army Weekly
Yank, the Army Weekly , or Yank for short , was a weekly magazine published by the US military during World War II .
history
The idea for Yank came from Egbert White, who worked for The Stars and Stripes magazine during the First World War . The first edition appeared on June 17, 1942, the last edition was published in December 1945. Yank was the most widely read magazine in US military history, with a worldwide circulation of more than 2.6 million copies. Their slogan was: "By the men ... for the men in the service" ("by the men ... for the men in the service"). There were different editions for the different theaters of war that cost between five and ten cents. Merle Miller later a successful novelist, screenwriter and biographer was one of the editors. Scott Corbett was the final editor and later became known as a writer of novels for children.
In 2014, the Stryker Brigade Combat Team , 1st Armored Division out of Fort Bliss , Texas issued an official release for the unit . On the cover of the January 2015 edition, they reproduced the original edition from March 30, 1945. The slogan of the new edition was: "By the soldiers ... for the soldiers in the service" ("by the soldiers ... for the soldiers on duty").
