Ella Raines
Ella Wallace Raines (born August 6, 1920 as Ella Wallace Raubes in Snoqualmie Falls , Washington , † May 30, 1988 in Sherman Oaks , Los Angeles ) was an American actress .
Life
Ella Raines, the daughter of an engineer, studied acting after high school and went to New York, where she had her first successes on Broadway . In 1943 she went to Hollywood and signed a contract with director Howard Hawks . She made her film debut in the war movie Corvette K 225 on the side of Randolph Scott . The actress celebrated great success in 1944 in Witness Wanted with Franchot Tone and in Under Suspicion with Charles Laughton as a partner. In both films noirs directed by Robert Siodmak she played the female lead. Also in 1944, she played the leading female role in the comedy Heil the Victorious Hero by Preston Sturges
After these successes in the mid-1940s, Raines was considered a possible big star in the future, but her other films were less successful afterwards. She shot the prison film Cell R 17 (1947) and another film noir, Impact (1949), directed by Arthur Lubin . In the 1950s she played the title role of the nurse in the television series Janet Dean, Registered Nurse and also made some records during this time. In 1956 the artist, who was also seen in television productions, withdrew from acting. She made a brief comeback in 1984 with a guest role on the television series Matt Houston .

Private
Ella Raines was married to Kenneth Trout from 1942 to 1945. Her second husband was the pilot Robin Olds from 1947 to 1976 , from this marriage two children were born. The actress, a cousin of the writer Gore Vidal , died of throat cancer in 1988 at the age of 67. She was buried in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Sylmar , California.
