Evelyn Ankers spent her childhood in Chile until her parents went back to England in 1928. She spoke little English at the time but was able to adapt quickly. She received her training as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts . She then appeared in a number of British films, mostly in smaller roles. In 1940 she went to America. She first worked on Broadway and then was recruited for the film, first by MGM , but where she did not appear in any film, then for Universal Studios . There she shot numerous "B" horror films from the universal horror series with famous stars such as Lon Chaney junior , Basil Rathbone and Bela Lugosi , but also with Abbott and Costello . After 1945 her career was sluggish, and from 1950 she withdrew more and more into private life, but still had appearances in various television series of the 50s.

Since 1942 she was married to the actor Richard Denning ( Hawaii five-zero ), with whom she also stood in front of the camera. Their first film together was Black Beauty (1946) and their last was No Greater Love (1960). The couple had a daughter, Dee (* 1945).
