John Brooke, 7th Baron Cobham

John Brooke, 7th Baron Cobham († March 9, 1512 ) was an English nobleman .

Life

He was a son of Edward Brooke, 6th Baron Cobham and Elizabeth, daughter of James Tuchet, 5th Baron Audley . He inherited the title of Baron Cobham from his father when he died in 1464.

During the Wars of the Roses he was, like his father, loyal to the House of York and fought in April 1471 at the Battle of Barnet for Edward IV against Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick and shortly afterwards at Tewkesbury in May 1471 against the army of Margaret of Anjou ( House of Lancaster ). After the victorious Battle of Tewkesbury on May 4, 1471, King Edward IV beat him to Knight Bachelor on the battlefield . In 1475 he accompanied King Edward IV on his campaign to France.

As Baron Cobham, he was called to Parliament under various kings. Under Edward IV twice (1472 and 1483), under Richard III. 1483 and five times under Henry VII between 1483 and 1495.

He died in 1512 and was buried in Cobham Church in Kent .

Marriage and offspring

He was married twice, first to Eleanor Austell and second to Margaret, daughter of Edward Neville, 3rd Baron Bergavenny († 1476).
