John Burton Buckley, 3rd Baron Wrenbury ( June 18, 1927 - September 27, 2014 ) was a British lawyer, clergyman and politician.

Life

John Burton Buckley came from an originally middle-class family. His grandfather, Sir Henry Burton Buckley , was the Privy Counselor and Lord Justice of Appeal . This was knighted as Baron Wrenbury in 1915 and received an associated seat in the House of Lords . He was the son of Bryan Buckley, 2nd Baron Wrenbury , and his wife Helen Malise Buckley, nee Graham. In 1956 he married Carolyn Joan Maule. The marriage ended in divorce in 1961. His second marriage was Penelope Sara Frances Fort in 1961, with whom he had a son, William Edward Buckley , and two daughters.

Buckley was a student at Eton College . He then enrolled at King's College of Cambridge University to study law. After completing his studies, he was admitted as a solicitor in 1952 , was Deputy Legal Adviser of the National Trust from 1955 to 1956 , and then from 1956 to 1974 partner in several law firms. Since a legal activity did not fill him in the long term, he switched to theology. It was after the end of the training period as a deacon of the Church of England ordained in 1991 and ordained a priest. He then became Non-Scholarship Minister (NSM) in the Diocese of Chichester until 2012 .

As early as 1940, when his father died in 1940, he inherited the title of Baron Wrenbury and became a hereditary member of the British House of Lords. In the House of Lords he was a member of the Crossbenchers . He remained there until the reform of the House of Lords in 1999 , when the hereditary titleholders lost their inherited seats and only 92 hereditary lords elected from among themselves were allowed to retain their seats. Since John Buckley was not one of the elect, he had to retire from the House of Lords. After he died on September 27, 2014, he was followed by his son William Edward Buckley as the 4th Baron Wrenbury. He was buried in Dallington , East Sussex on October 11, 2014 .
