John David James Dalrymple, 14th Earl of Stair (born September 4, 1961 ) is a British politician and peer . He has been a member of the House of Lords since 2008 as one of 90 elected hereditary nobility , and from 1996 to 1999 he was already a member of the House of Lords due to his title.

origin

Stair is the eldest child of John Dalrymple, 13th Earl of Stair and Davina Katherine Bowes-Lyon , sister of the late "Queen Mum", Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon . His mother is therefore a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II , and he is therefore a great cousin of her children Charles, Prince of Wales , Anne Mountbatten-Windsor, Princess Royal , Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Duke of York , and Edward Mountbatten-Windsor, Earl of Wessex .

Career

After his father's death in 1996, Stair was given his father's title and seat in the House of Lords. After the House of Lords Act he initially lost his seat, an election to the group of 90 elected hereditary nobles of the House of Lords failed. Only after the death of Davina Ingrams, 18th Baroness Darcy de Knayth in 2008, was he re-elected to the House of Lords. He does not belong to any party, but sits as a crossbencher in the upper house.

family

Stair has been married to Emily Mary Julia Stonor since 2006, daughter of Ralph Stonor, 7th Baron Camoys and Elizabeth Mary Hyde Parker. His son and heir to the title is John James Thomas Dalrymple, born on January 3, 2008, with the courtesy title Viscount Dalrymple .
