John Douglas, 21st Earl of Morton

John Charles Sholto Douglas, 21st Earl of Morton (March 19, 1927 - March 5, 2016 ) was a Scottish peer and landowner in Dalmahoy near Edinburgh.

Life

He was the son of Charles William Sholto Douglas and Florence Timson and the grandson of Sholto Douglas, 19th Earl of Morton . He went to the Bryanston School in Blandford near Bryanston in Dorset and the Canford School in Canford Magna near Wimborne Minster in Dorset. He inherited the title of Earl on the death of his first cousin, Sholto Charles Douglas, 20th Earl of Morton , in 1976 . The hereditary title was also associated with a seat in the House of Lords until 1999 . In the Hansard , however, no speeches by him are recorded.

He was a real estate advisor, a partner with Dalmahoy Farms and chairman of the Edinburgh Polo Club and was a director of the Bristol & West Building Society in Scotland. He became Deputy Lieutenant of West Lothian in 1982 and served as Lord Lieutenant of West Lothian from 1985 to 2002 .

He married Mary Sheila Gibbs in 1949, with whom he has three children:
