John Elliot Cairnes
John Elliot Cairnes [ dʒɒn ˈɛlɪət kɛənz ] (born December 26, 1823 in Drogheda , Ireland , † July 7, 1875 in Blackheath , London ; also written Elliott ) was an Irish economist .
Life
Cairnes initially worked in his father's brewery, but since 1848 devoted himself to studying law at Dublin University . In 1857 he was appointed professor of economics there, followed in 1862 a call to the Queen's College in Galway as professor of law and then an equal to the University College in London. His weakened health compelled him to give up teaching.

Cairnes is considered the most important student of John Stuart Mill , whose teachings he developed independently in the scriptures:
