John Fahey (politician)

John Joseph Fahey (born January 10, 1945 in Wellington ) is a former Australian politician .

As a member of the Liberal Party , Fahey was a member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales from 1984 to 1996 and served as Prime Minister of the state between June 24, 1992 and March 24, 1995.

In 1996, the newly elected Australian Prime Minister John Howard brought him to his cabinet as Minister of Finance and Administration; in this post he succeeded Kim Beazley . In 2001 he retired from politics after a lung transplant. During this period he was also a member of the House of Representatives .

On November 17, 2007 he was elected to succeed Richard Pound as chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). He took up his post on January 1, 2008.
