John George Govan (born January 19, 1861 in Govan , Lanark (Scotland) , † September 1927 in Perth ) was a Scottish businessman , evangelist and founder of The Faith Mission .

Life

He was impressed by the demands of the sanctification movement (as reported to him by friends who attended the 1884 Keswick Convention ). With the aim of leading a life entirely centered on God , he decided to give up all worldly and personal pursuits. Several months after that decision, he came to a point where he realized that he had changed his life forever. He later wrote: “ When you, my friends, get into a situation of complete surrender to God, then, yes, then He will show you when and how long to wait for him; and he will come to you and bless you in ways that you may not yet know. "

His normal daily routine during this time consisted of the morning watch from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., work, and the revival meetings every evening. “ He got to know the voice of God, ” his daughter said later.

In 1886 he decided to leave the business world completely and devote himself only to spreading the Gospels . Before his death, he founded the Faith Mission , a Protestant - Christian organization based in Rothesay , Scotland. He wanted members to "live a life of faith."

He married Annie Martin on September 28, 1894 and had four children: sons Frank and Ellis and daughters Isobel (who wrote a book about his life) and Sheena.
