John HF Campbell

John HF Campbell (born June 23, 1936 in Dublin ) is an Irish diplomat .

Campbell studied at Trinity College in Dublin and at Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut . During his studies he received a Master of Arts .

Campbell was now active in the diplomatic service of the Irish Foreign Office. During his diplomatic career he was ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1980 to 1983 , ambassador to Germany from 1983 to 1986 , as well as ambassador to the European Community from 1986 to 1991 and ambassador to France from 1991 to 1995 . In 1995 he became the Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations in New York City . He held this office until 1998 when he was replaced by Richard Ryan . In 1999 Campbell became Irish Ambassador to Portugal with simultaneous accreditation in Brazil and Morocco .

Campbell has been married since 1964. The marriage had two children.
