John Hoge

John Hoge (born September 10, 1760 in Hogestown , Province of Pennsylvania , †  August 4, 1824 in Washington County , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . In 1804 and 1805 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Hoge was the older brother of Congressman William Hoge (1762-1814). After a good education, he served as an ensign in a Pennsylvania regiment during the Revolutionary War . In 1782 he and his brother moved to the Pennsylvania area, which was later to become the city of Washington . This city was founded by the two Hoge brothers. He later embarked on a political career. In 1790 he took part as a delegate at a constitutional convention of his state; from 1790 to 1795 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . He became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s .

After his brother's resignation as Congressman, Hoge was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 1804. By March 3, 1805 he was able to end the current legislative period in Congress . Nothing is known about John Hoge's life after he left the US House of Representatives. He died on August 4, 1824 on the Meadow Lands estate in Washington County.
