John Hogg (born March 19, 1949 in Brisbane , Queensland ) is an Australian politician ( ALP ).

Life

Hogg attended St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace , a private Roman Catholic boys' school in Spring Hill . He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Queensland and a Diploma in Primary Teaching from the Queensland University of Technology . After finishing his studies, he first worked as a teacher. He later worked in the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association . At the same time, Hogg became active in the Australian Labor Party, of which he has been a member since 1976. Over the years he has held various offices at the state and eventually national levels within the party.

In 1996 he was elected for the first time for his party in the Australian Senate , where he represented the state of Queensland from July 1, 1996 to June 30, 2014. He was re-elected in 2001 and 2007. In 2013, Hogg decided not to run again. During this time he was Deputy Senate President from February 19, 2002 to August 25, 2008 and President of the Senate from August 26, 2008.

Hogg is married.
