John Hopkins (screenwriter)

John Richard Hopkins (born January 27, 1931 in London , England , † July 23, 1998 in Los Angeles , USA) was a British screenwriter and playwright.

Live and act

He began his career in the film business as a studio manager in the 1950s. He began writing screenplays for the BBC and created a. a. the television series Z-Cars . In 1965 he wrote the screenplay for the James Bond film Fireball together with Richard Maibaum .

John Hopkins also wrote a number of dramas for the stage. He also worked as a director and, in addition to an episode for the series Thirty-Minute Theater, directed two feature films.

In 1996 John Hopkins was awarded the Humanitas Prize for the screenplay for the film Hiroshima .

He was married twice, each with a child. His second wife was the actress Shirley Knight .
