John Hopkinson (zoologist)

John Hopkinson (* 1844 in Leeds ; † July 5, 1919 ) was a British naturalist ( zoologist , geologist , meteorologist ).

His main occupation was co-owner of a company producing pianos in London. He lived in Hertfordshire, first in St. Albans, then in Weetwood near Watford. In addition, he was interested in various aspects of natural research. He was co-author of a monograph on rhizopods (Rhizopoda) and sun animals (Heliozoa).

He was with A. Brett founder of the Hertfordshire Natural History Society and from 1891 to 1893 its president. Hopkinson was a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London , the Geological Society of London and the Zoological Society of London . From 1899 to 1902 he was treasurer of the Ray Society .
