John J. Koraleski

John J. (Jack) Koraleski (born 1951) is a retired American railroad manager. He was chairman , CEO and president of Union Pacific Corporation .

Life

Koraleski studied at the University of Nebraska in Omaha , where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1972 and his master's degree in 1981.

In June 1972 he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad. From 1973 he worked in the newly created area of ​​planning and analysis under John Rebensdorf. From October 1991 to March 1, 1999, he was Vice President, Finance and Information Technology, Union Pacific Railroad. Then he became Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Union Pacific Railroad. He held this position until March 15, 2012. During this time he tried to expand the road freight business. Since President-elect and Chief Executive Officer James R. Young was seriously ill and was unable to perform his duties due to hospitalization, John Koraleski was appointed acting President and CEO of Union Pacific Corporation and Union Pacific Railroad.

On July 26, 2012, he was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board and on March 20, 2014, he was appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

As part of the planned corporate succession, the position of President of the railway company was transferred to Lance M. Fritz on February 6, 2014 . On February 5, 2015, the remaining functions of CEO of Union Pacific Railroad and President and CEO of Union Pacific Corporation were handed over to Fritz. At the same time, Koraleski became Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors. On October 1, 2015, Fritz also took over the position of Chairman of the Board. At the same time Koraleski ended his activity on the supervisory board.

In addition, he was Chairman of The Bridges Investment Fund, Inc. from 2005 to March 2013 and has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Martin Marietta Materials since August 15, 2016 .

Koraleski is married and has four children. He is a member of the board of directors of the Nebraska Methodist Hospital , advisory board member of the Women's Center for Progress (formerly YWCA ) and has supported the YWCA campaign of the Union Pacific for over 21 years. Together with his wife Stephanie, he founded the Commerce and Applied Behavioral Laboratory at the University of Nebraska.

In 2015 he was the "King" of the Aksarben Foundation , a non-profit organization in Nebraska.
