John Kruesi
John Kruesi (actually Johann Heinrich Krüsi) (born May 15, 1843 in Heiden , Appenzell Ausserrhoden , † February 22, 1899 in Schenectady , New York ) was a mechanical engineer and a long-term partner of Thomas Edison .
After training as a locksmith , he emigrated to the USA in 1870 . In 1871 he met Edison, who had just built a factory for stock market tickers and was looking for a mechanical engineer. Kruesi was instrumental in building the phonograph , the incandescent lamp and several Edison companies. Kruesi is also considered to be the inventor of the underground electrical cable ( underground cable ), known as the Kruesi pipe .
One of Kruesi's sons founded the “Walter Edison Kruesi Foundation” in Herisau in 1960 ; the city of Chattanooga has been presenting the "Kruesi Spirit of Innovation Award" since 2001.
