John Lloyd

John Lloyd (born August 27, 1954 in Leigh-on-Sea , Essex ) is a former British tennis professional and later sports commentator.

Career

Lloyd achieved his greatest international success in 1977 when he reached the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne, where he was defeated by the American Vitas Gerulaitis in five sets. He was the first British tennis player who could move into the final of a Grand Slam tournament since the beginning of the Open Era .

In the single player Lloyd won a Grand Prix title, with 21st place he reached his best rating in the ATP world rankings . Lloyd achieved greater success in doubles, with two Grand Prix victories. In mixed doubles, he won three Grand Slam titles together with Wendy Turnbull , at the French Open in 1982 and at Wimbledon in 1983 and 1984 .

Lloyd played in the Davis Cup for eleven years . In 2006 he took over the post of team principal of the British Davis Cup team for four years .

Lloyd has been a commentator for the British BBC since the 1990s , particularly at the annual tournament at Wimbledon.

Private

Lloyd was married to the American tennis player Chris Evert . He lives in the United States with his second wife and two children .
