John Macon Thome

John Macon Thome (born August 22, 1843 in Palmyra , † September 27, 1908 in Córdoba ) was an American - Argentine astronomer .

Thome graduated from Lehigh University as a civil engineer . In 1870 he became senior assistant to Benjamin Apthorp Gould at the Argentine National Observatory (today Observatorio Astronómico de Córdoba ). After Gould's retirement in 1885, Thome followed as director of the observatory. The Cordoba survey was carried out under his direction . After Thome, Charles Dillon Perrine followed as director of the observatory.

In 1985 he married Frances Angeline Wall, a teacher at the Escuela Normal de Maestros in Córdoba.

In 1901 Thome was honored with the Lalande Prize of the Académie des Sciences .
