John Maxwell, 6th Lord Herries of Terregles
John Maxwell, 6th Lord Herries of Terregles († May 1631 ), was a Scottish nobleman .
He was the eldest son of William Maxwell, 5th Lord Herries of Terregles and his wife Catherine Kerr. When his father died in 1604, he inherited the title of Lord Herries of Terregles and became a member of the Scottish Parliament.
He married his second cousin, Elizabeth Maxwell (1579-1639), daughter of John Maxwell, 8th Lord Maxwell and the Lady Elizabeth Douglas. He had four children with her:

- John Maxwell, 3rd Earl of Nithsdale , 7th Lord Herries of Terregles (1600–1677), ⚭ Elizabeth Gordon
- James Maxwell of Breconside
- Frederick Maxwell, Rector of Scots Seminary in Madrid, Spain
He died in May 1631 and was inherited by his eldest son John.
