John McCulloch

John McCulloch (born November 15, 1806 in McCullochs Mills , Pennsylvania , †  May 15, 1879 in Huntingdon , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John McCulloch attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1825 Jefferson College in Canonsburg . After a subsequent medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his license as a doctor in 1829, he began to work in Green Tree in this profession. In 1830 he moved his practice and residence to Petersburg in Huntingdon County . He worked there as a doctor until 1852. Politically, he became a member of the Whig Party .

In the congressional elections of 1852 McCulloch was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 18th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Littleton Dawson , who moved to another district, on March 4, 1853 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1854, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1855 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, John McCulloch practiced as a doctor in Huntingdon. After the dissolution of the Whigs, he joined the Republican Party . In 1874 he was a delegate to a constitutional convention in his home state. John McCulloch died on May 15, 1879 in Huntingdon, where he was also buried.
