John McLaughlin (politician)
John McLaughlin (born January 8, 1849 in Cornwall Township , Ontario , † June 4, 1911 in Avonmore , Ontario) was a Canadian politician of the Conservative Party of Ontario .
John McLaughlin was the son of Irish immigrants from County Antrim . After growing up in Cornwall Township, now South Stormont, he moved to Avonmore in Roxborough Township . There he worked as a farmer and in the timber industry. On June 28, 1872, he married Jennett Runions.
Between 1885 and 1886, McLaughlin served as Deputy Reeve of Roxborough Township; he also chaired the local Liberal Conservative Association for several years . On March 1, 1898, he entered the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Conservative representative for the Stormont constituency , after having prevailed against A. F. Mulhern from the Liberal Party in the elections . He was a member of the provincial parliament until April 19, 1902; then he withdrew from politics.
