John McLaughlin (presenter)

John McLaughlin [ dʒɑːn məˈklɑːklɪn ] (born March 29, 1927 in Providence , Rhode Island , † August 16, 2016 in Washington, DC ) hosted and produced the McLaughlin Group , a weekly political discussion group on US television since 1982.

McLaughlin received two Masters degrees from Boston College and a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University . Before his career as a moderator, he was a Jesuit priest and worked as a speechwriter for Richard Nixon . In 1970 he ran for Rhode Island for a seat in the US Senate , but was defeated by John O. Pastore .

John McLaughlin was married to former US Secretary of Labor Ann McLaughlin Korologos from 1975 to 1992 .
