Ann Dore McLaughlin Korologos ( maiden name: Dore) (born November 16, 1941 in Chatham , Morris County , New Jersey ) is an American politician and manager .

biography

Promotion to Minister of Labor

After attending school, she studied at Marymount College in New Jersey and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). She later completed postgraduate studies at the University of London and the University of Pennsylvania .

After completing her studies, she worked for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in network planning from 1963 to 1966 . In 1970 she was campaign manager for John McLaughlin , who ran unsuccessfully as a US Senator for Rhode Island . She then worked for the chemical company Union Carbide , where she was most recently assistant director for relations with state and local governments from 1974 to 1977. In 1975 she married John McLaughlin, from whom she divorced in 1992.

In 1981, she was assistant to the Minister of Finance ( Assistant Secretary of the Treasury ) for public relations and a close associate of Prime Minister Donald Regan and James Baker .

On 14 December 1987, she became the successor of Bill Brock Secretary of Labor ( Secretary of Labor ) in the government of US President Ronald Reagan . She held this post until the end of Reagan's term on January 20, 1989.

From 1990 to 1995 she was chair of the Federal City Council , a civic association to strengthen the interests of the federal capital Washington .

Activities in companies

After retiring from national politics, she went into the private sector and has been a member of the board of directors of American Airlines since 1990 . From 1993 to 2005 she was also a board member of Host Marriott Corporation , from 1996 to 2005 Senior Adviser to Benedetto, Gartland & Co., 1996 to 2000 chairwoman of the Aspen Institute and from 2000 to 2006 board member of Microsoft .

Ann McLaughlin, the second wife, the former US ambassador in Belgium , Tom C. Korologos , is married, was also a board member of the company Donna Karan International , General Motors , Harman International Industries , Kellogg Company , Nordstrom and Vulcan Materials and since 2005 member of the board of directors of Host Hotels & Resorts , the successor to Host Marriott Corporation .

She is also advisor to the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a member of the Executive Board of the Washington Center and in 2004 was chairman of the Board of Trustees ( Board of Trustees ) of the Rand Corporation .
