Raymond James Donovan (* 31 August 1930 in Bayonne , New Jersey ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ) and manager .

biography

After attending school, he completed a degree at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans , which he completed in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in philosophy . He then became a manager in the private sector and was most recently Vice President of the construction company Schiavone Construction Company .

On February 4, 1981, he was supported by US President Ronald Reagan to the Secretary of Labor ( Secretary of Labor ) in the Cabinet appointed. He held this office until March 15, 1985.

He was charged with fraud and theft because of his work as vice-president of the Schiavone contractor . In 1987 he was acquitted of these charges by a court. Commenting on the proceedings brought against him, Donovan said:

"If you are in construction in this country you are suspect. If you are in construction in New Jersey, you are actionable. If you are in construction in New Jersey and Italian, you are convicted." ("If you're in the contracting business in this country, you're suspect. If you're in the contracting business in New Jersey, you're indictable. If you're in the contracting business in New Jersey and are Italian , you're convicted. ")
