John Milton Yinger

John Milton Yinger (born July 6, 1916 in Quincy, Michigan , † July 28, 2011 in Oberlin, Ohio ) was an American sociologist and the 68th President of the American Sociological Association .

Yinger received his bachelor's degree from DePauw University in 1937 , his master's degree from Louisiana State University in 1939 and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1943. PhD. After various positions as a university lecturer, Yinger was Professor of Sociology at Oberlin College in 1952 . He researched and published in particular on social minorities and on the sociology of religion . He became known internationally for his concept of counterculture .
