John Michael Morton (born April 3, 1946 in Keene , New Hampshire ) is a retired American biathlete .

During his time at Middlebury College , Morton went cross-country skiing . He was able to take second place at the NCAA championships in 1968 . He later moved to the US Army and trained in biathlon in Fort Richardson , Alaska . He qualified for the 1976 Winter Olympics . There he competed in the relay over 4 × 7.5 kilometers. With his teammates Lyle Nelson , Dennis Donahue and Peter Dascoulias he finished eleventh.

After his active career, Morton worked as an English teacher and coach in athletics and skiing in Anchorage . Until 1989 he was the head coach at Dartmouth College . He then designed various routes for cross-country skiers, biathletes, mountain bikers and riders. He also works as a ski commentator for Vermont Public Radio .
