John O'Groats is a headland on the George V coast in East Antarctica . It forms the eastern branch of Cape Denison on the shores of the Commonwealth Bay .
Douglas Mawson , head of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914), named it after the town of John o 'Groats at the northeastern end of Scotland .
