John R. Crawford

John Randolph Crawford (born August 4, 1915 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania , † February 14, 1976 in New York ) was an extremely versatile American player and game expert. He won the Bermuda Bowl , the world championship in bridge, three times in a row in 1950, 1951 and 1952 .

In backgammon , John Crawford is known as the inventor of the Crawford Rule , he also won several major tournaments, such as the second International Backgammon Tournament in Lucaya, Bahamas in 1965 - these tournaments mark the beginning of modern backgammon. John Crawford's wife, Carol , won the Backgammon World Championship in Las Vegas in 1973 . Together with Oswald Jacoby , John Crawford wrote The Backgammon Book .

John Crawford and Oswald Jacoby also developed a strategy for the canasta game, won the Great Canasta Challenge Match against Theodore Lightner and Sam Fry in 1950 and wrote the rules of Samba canasta .

In addition, John Crawford was considered one of the best gin rummy players.
