Bruno Predel (born August 19, 1928 in Łódź ; † January 20, 2007 in Stuttgart ) was a German chemist .

Act

After studying chemistry and subsequent doctorate at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , he worked from 1956 to 1958 as a research assistant at the Institute for Physical Chemistry. He worked as an assistant at the same institute from 1958 to 1959.

From 1959 to 1964 he was employed at the Institute for Materials Research at the Westphalian Wilhelms University. In 1963 the habilitation Venia Legendi for the physics of metallurgy and the appointment as a private lecturer followed. In 1967 he was appointed scientific advisor and professor.

In 1969 he was appointed adjunct professor and then in 1970 he was appointed full professor and dean. In 1973, he accepted an appointment at the University of Stuttgart for a professorship in physical metallurgy. This also made him a scientific member of the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research , of which he was a member until his retirement in 1996.

In 1987 he became director at the MPI for Metals Research. At the University of Stuttgart he was in charge of the Dean's Office of the Chemistry Faculty. He belonged to various academies as a corresponding member.

His scientific work focused on metal science. The main areas of his research concerned problems of thermodynamics in the formation of alloys . In particular, he devoted himself to the representation of the phase equilibrium in heterogeneous binary alloys.

His work was reflected in recognized publications in books and specialist magazines and found worldwide recognition. In the field of metallurgy and metal research, his work has contributed to certain groundbreaking discoveries.
