action
John Riew is the story of a great friendship that goes beyond death. Riew and his friend Rick are two sailors who will one day make it to the captain. Both men, who are based in Hamburg, travel around the world in their ships. One day Rick tied the knot, and although there was a child in this marriage, he would not be happy in that relationship. Rick starts drinking and starts ruining both his job and his personal life.
When he dies, John Riew takes care of the family of the deceased friend. He enables the growing daughter Anna to have a middle-class, albeit not exactly well-off, existence as a seamstress with a small business. But this is not enough for Anna, she expects more from life. As unstable as her late father, she throws herself into an adventurous existence on Hamburg's entertainment mile St. Pauli. But after a few upheavals, things finally turn out to be better ...
