Hans-Georg Herrmann

Hans-Georg Herrmann (born April 13, 1935 , † November 22, 2001 ) was a German sports educator , university professor and handball official .

Life

Herrmann, who actively played handball , studied at the pedagogical faculty of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and then worked as a sports teacher in Stendal and later in Leipzig. From 1960 he worked at the Institute for Theory and Methodology of School Sports at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) as a research assistant, in 1966 he completed his doctoral thesis (subject: “On the design of intensive training in general sports groups at the intermediate level: presented on the basis an educational experiment with 5th grade students ”). Herrmann became deputy head of the DHfK Institute for Theory and Methodology of School Sports and in 1969 director of the Conducting and Educational Sciences section.

From 1971 he was prorector for prognosis and scientific development at the DHfK, from 1972 prorector of the DHfK. In 1978 Herrmann took up a professorship for management and planning of socialist physical culture at the university and also became rector of the DHfK. He held the latter office until 1987. In his work he dealt among other things with "social conditions and factors for the development of physical culture and sport" in the GDR as well as trainer training.

Between 1984 and 1990 he was President of the Handball Association of the German Democratic Republic (DHV). As a functionary of the International Handball Federation (IHF), Herrmann was among other things at numerous international matches as secretary and referee and chaired the IHF committee for public relations. In 1997 Herrmann was one of the authors of the anniversary book for the 50th anniversary of the IHF.
