John Robinson (born April 1, 1913 in Leeds , † June 1989 ibid) was an English football player .

Career

Born in Leeds, Robinson belonged to Huddersfield Town as an amateur before he was signed by the second division Sheffield United in May 1936 . Introduced as a right half-forward, he played his three league games for Sheffield's first team over the next three seasons as a right winger . He made his debut in April 1938 in a 0-0 home game against Aston Villa , in early February 1939 two more missions followed in place of Jimmy Hagan in away wins in Norwich and Plymouth . At the end of the season, Sheffield was second in the championship as the first division promotion, but Robinson moved during the summer break together with his teammate Richard Lowe to Hull City in the Third Division North .

Only a short time after the start of the season - Hull had played two season games without the involvement of Robinson - regular game operations were discontinued due to the outbreak of World War II . The season 1939/40 he appeared for Hull in the war-related substitute competitions on the right wing, the season 1940/41 he then played as a right runner . In total, he completed 46 goalless appearances for Hull in the substitute competitions. After Hull had suspended gaming operations for three years from 1941 due to severe damage to its own Anlaby Road venue through German air raids and for financial reasons, Robinson was last deployed in April 1945. Hull did not take part in the season 1945/46 again in the game operation, with the resumption of regular game operations in 1946 he was no longer part of the squad.
