John Rous, 1st Earl of Stradbroke

John Rous, 1st Earl of Stradbroke ( May 30, 1750 - August 27, 1827 ) was a British Tory politician who was a member of the House of Commons from 1780 to 1796 . In 1796 he was raised to a peer and thus a member of the House of Lords .

Life

Member of the House of Commons and House of Lords

Rous was the son of Sir John Rous, 5th Baronet and in 1771 he inherited the title of 6th Baronet , of Henham in the County of Suffolk.

In 1780 Rous became a member of the House of Commons as a representative of the Tories and represented in this until 1796 the constituency of Suffolk . On May 28, 1796 he was raised in the Peerage of Great Britain to Baron Rous , of Dennington in the County of Suffolk, and thus became a member of the House of Lords, to which he belonged until his death on August 17, 1827. On July 18, 1821, he was also raised in the Peerage of the United Kingdom to Earl of Stradbroke and Viscount Dunwich , in the County of Suffolk.

Marriages and offspring

Rous was married twice. In his first marriage he married Frances Juliana Warter-Wilson on January 26, 1788, but she died on June 20, 1790 without male descendants. From this marriage came the eldest daughter Frances Anne Juliana Rous, who was married to Vice Admiral Henry Hotham, who was commander in chief of the Mediterranean fleet between 1831 and 1833 .

In his second marriage, Rouse married Charlotte Maria Whittaker on February 23, 1792. From this marriage came John Edward Cornwallis Rous , who later became the 2nd Earl of Stradbroke.
