John Systad

John Systad (born September 14, 1912 in Bergen , † September 16, 1998 in Gothenburg ) was a Norwegian marathon runner .

At the European Athletics Championships in Oslo in 1946 he was twelfth.

In 1947 he finished second in the Enschede Marathon and finished third in the Košice Marathon with 2:39:55 h as the first Norwegian to stay under the 2:40 h mark. The following year he was eighth at the 1948 Olympic Games in London in 2:38:41 h and second in Košice in 2:36:43 h.

In 1949 he was fourth in Enschede and Košice. The following year he was Norwegian champion and ninth at the Euro 1950 in Brussels. In 1951 he defended his national title and finished fifth in Enschede.

In 1952 he improved his national record as Norwegian champion to 2:35:54 h and came 34th at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 2:41:30 h.

In 1953 and 1955 he was again national champion. He set his personal best of 2:32:16 h in 1956 when he came second in the Norwegian Championship.

In 1947, 1948 and 1950 he was the Norwegian champion in the 25 km road race .
