John Thomson

John Patrick Thomson (* 2. April 1969 in Salford , Lancashire , native Patrick Francis McAleer ) is a British actor and comedian .

Life

His birth mother, Mary McAleer , gave him up for adoption a few weeks after he was born . So he grew up as the adopted son of Andrew and Marita Thomson, who belonged to a Catholic family of the ' Catholic Children's Rescue Society '. He went to school in Lancashire and then later to college. There it was noticed that he had a talent in the field of comedy .

Today Thomson is married to longtime girlfriend Samantha Sharp, with whom he has two daughters.

Career

Comedy and television

After graduating from college, Thomson studied drama at Manchester Metropolitan University .

While studying there, he met Steve Coogan , who got him a job on the television show Spitting Image . Since then he has been an active comedian and actor and has appeared on many television shows and series, most of which were produced by the British broadcasters BBC and ITV . He was also seen in a few films such as The Handbook of the Young Poisoner , 24 Hour Party People and Inkheart in supporting roles.

In 1994 Thomson appeared on the BBC's 'The Fast Show' sketch series, which lasted through the end of the year. Thomson played memorable characters like Chip Cobb , the deaf stuntman, and Roger the Nouveau soccer fan.

In 1996 he appeared alongside Maureen Lipman as Bob Acres in The Rivals at the Royal Exchange in Manchester .

In January 2008, Thomson played Mike (Topaz) on the BBC Radio 4 comedy drama series Pick Ups .
