John Watson (philosopher)

John Watson (born February 25, 1847 , † January 27, 1939 in Kingston , Ontario ) was a representative of British idealism who worked as a professor of moral philosophy at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada .

But Watson studied theology at the University of Glasgow in 1866 . His teacher was Edward Caird . On the recommendation of Caird, Watson was given the chair of logic, metaphysics and ethics in Kingston in 1872. From 1889 to 1924 he was professor of moral philosophy there.

Watson has campaigned for women to be admitted to college. He is one of the absolute idealists and in his philosophy ties in with Plato , Kant and Hegel .
