John West, 4th Earl de la Warr

John Richard West, 4th Earl De La Warr ( July 28, 1758 - July 28, 1795 ) was a British nobleman , politician and military man.

He was a son of John West, 2nd Earl De La Warr out of his wife Mary Wynyard.

He was educated at Eton College . He served in the British Army with the rank of lieutenant in the 2nd Foot Guards . In 1778 he was elected to succeed his older brother Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr , equerry of Queen Charlotte . He held this office until January 1783, when he inherited his title of nobility and the associated seat in the House of Lords when his older brother died . In 1789 he became gentleman of the bedchamber to King Gerorg III.

On April 2, 1783 he married Catherine Lyell, daughter of the noble Henry Lyell, who immigrated to England from Sweden. He had two children with her:

He died on July 28, 1795 at the age of 37. His son inherited his title.
