John Wilkinson (born July 3, 1945 in Washington, DC , † January 11, 2013 in Springfield , Missouri ) was an American guitarist who was part of the TCB Band from 1969 to 1977 and played more than 1,200 Elvis concerts Presley stood on the stage.

Life

Wilkinson grew up in Springfield, Missouri and became a fan of Elvis Presley early on. However, he didn't like the way Presley played the guitar. When Elvis performed in his home town in 1955, he knocked on his idol's cabin and bluntly told him.

At the age of 13 Wilkinson formed his own band, which he called The Coachmen .

Around 1964 Wilkinson moved to California , where he attended university and earned a reputation in the recording studios .

Because he still needed a rhythm guitarist , Elvis Presley contacted him in 1968. Soon after, Wilkinson was part of the ensemble until the King of Rock 'n' Roll died in 1977 . In parallel, he also played for the Kingston Trio at times .

After Presley's death, Wilkinson formed a band called Justice .

In 1989 he suffered a stroke that paralyzed his left arm so that he could no longer play the guitar.

Nevertheless, he still appeared occasionally with some members of the old TCB band at Elvis memorial events and tours and usually sang the song Early Morning Rain .

John Richard Wilkinson, as his full name was called, died on January 11, 2013 as a result of cancer .
