John Donald "Johnny" Aitken (born May 3, 1885 in Indianapolis , † October 15, 1918 ) was an American automobile racing driver .

Career

Johnny Aitken has won more races than any other driver at Indianapolis Motor Speedway . But these were not wins in the Indianapolis 500 . He won twelve races in 1909 and 1910. On September 9, 1916, three smaller races were held in Indianapolis, which were referred to as the "Harvest Classic". It was a 20-mile, a 50-mile and a 100-mile race. Aitken won all three races with a Peugeot . Only in 1911 and 1916 did he compete in the Indianapolis 500. He retired on both occasions, and in 1916 he started from pole position.
