The cutting group ( Norwegian Johnsonhorna , English Johnson Peaks ) is a group of remote mountains in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . They rise up at the northern end of the Middle Petermann chain in the Wohlthatmassiv .
The group was discovered during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . The mapping based on their own measurements and aerial photographs was carried out by participants in the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). The German-language name goes back to Otto von Gruber . The namesake of the Norwegian and English names is Rolf Johnson, cook on the Norwegian expedition.
