Joke Lanz (* 1965 in Basel ) is a Swiss noise musician, turntablist, performance artist and singer in the electronic independent scene.

Career

Joke Lanz is the singer and head of the band Sudden Infant, member of the Schimpfluch group (with Rudolf Eb.er, Dave Phillips, Marc Zeier, Daniel Löwenbrück, among others) and plays in several duos and formations of improvised music and others. a. with Shelley Hirsch , Christian Weber , Sophie Agnel , Ute Wassermann , Audrey Chen , Jonas Kocher , Michael Vatcher , Olaf Rupp , Jorge Sanchez-Chiong , Mat Pogo , Alexandre Babel , Charlotte Hug , Rudi Fischerlehner , dieb13 .

Joke Lanz was the bass player and singer in the hardcore band Jaywalker from 1986 to 1988. In 1989 he founded the Sudden Infant action project, which was transformed into a trio in 2014 with Christian Weber (bass) and Alexandre Babel (drums).

From 1998-2000 he played with the MK Selection ( Marco Käppeli , Hämi Hämmerli , Bruno Amstad , Günter Weiss) on the turntables.

From 2004 to 2008 he was the singer and front man of the electro-industrial duo Catholic Boys In Heavy Leather with Roger Rotor. The duo took to the stage at industrial and EBM festivals. a. for machine fixed, electric stop, shock current, BIM fixed and summer darkness.

Joke Lanz works at the interface between improvised and experimental music, between noise and turntablism , between performance art and musique concrete . In addition to theater and film music, radio work, installations and objects, two constants run through his work: on the one hand, his work as a turntablist, in which he manipulates record players and vinyl discs, and on the other, his action project Sudden Infant.

The documentary My Life Is a Gunshot about Joke Lanz by Marcel Derek Ramsay will be released in 2019/2020 .
