Alexandre Babel

Alexandre Babel (also Alexander Babel , * 1980 in Geneva ) is a Swiss experimental and improvisation musician ( drums , percussion , composition).

Live and act

Babel studied in his hometown and in New York City. Since the 2000s in the European improvisation scene a. a. with Sven-Åke Johansson ( Films I , 2013), Jacques Demierre and Hans Koch , also in the field of contemporary music , noise and music performances; he has also appeared as a soloist at numerous festivals. He is a member of the Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin , played as a guest musician in the Ensemble musikFabrik , Berliner Ensemble , Synergy Percussion Group, Schlagquartett Köln and works in the music projects WZC (with Pierre Jodlowski ), Fosil (with Theo Nabicht ), Radial (with Mio Chareteau ) . His compositions for percussion have been performed at the Eyedrum Festivals in Atlanta, Oberlin College and the Archipel Festival in Geneva. He also played with Keiji Haino , Fritz Hauser , Steven Schick , Jean Geoffroy , Manfred Karge , Otomo Yoshihide , Anthony Pateras and in the formations Sudden Infant , Buttercup Metal Polish (with Nicolas Field ) and Aethenor . He is also the artistic director of the Swiss percussion band Eklekto . In 2013 Babel released his solo album Over / Upper (Dumpf). In 2008/09 he taught at the Geneva University of Music. He has been running the Batteries Festival since 2006 ! in Geneva (in collaboration with Eklekto - Geneva percussion Center). Babel currently lives and works (2016) in Berlin.
