Bruno Amstad (* 1964 in Stans ) is a Swiss singer in the field of improvised music and jazz .

Live and act

Amstadt was initially active as a soul , funk and rock singer in the 1980s . Then he switched to jazz and world music . Christy Doran brought him into his New Bag project , in which he worked for twelve years (with Wolfgang Zwiauer, Fabian Kuratli , Hans-Peter Pfammatter , Dominik Burkhalter and Vincent Membrez) and was documented on seven albums between 1999 and 2011. He also developed several solo programs.

He also sang in the group Bazaar of the harpist Asita Hamidi (with Björn Meyer , Kaspar Rast , among others ); there Amstad developed into an important representative of the Swiss world music scene. He is also part of Sandro Schneebeli's international Scala Mobile project (together with Antonello Messina and Paul McCandless ).

Over the past twenty years Amstad has performed with a wide variety of bands and projects in over fifty countries, including Fredy Studer , Phil Minton , Lauren Newton , John Zorn , Christian Weber / Joke Lanz, DJ Olive , Markus Breuss and Martin Baumgartner. In recent years Amstad has also increasingly worked in theater, film and radio play projects. He has been cooperating with the Werkstatt für Theater Luzern for years . He also worked with Albin Brun for the theater.

Prizes and awards

In 1995 Amstad received a work grant from the city and canton of Lucerne; In 1999 the city of Lucerne received the recognition award . In the same year he was honored for the best film music in the field of industrial film at the Locarno Film Festival . In 2004 he was awarded the ZKB Jazz Prize.
