Bjorn Meyer

Björn Meyer (born September 5, 1965 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish bass player and composer .

Live and act

Meyer played the piano as a child, first learned the trumpet in the Swedish youth music school, sang in the boys' choir and played guitar in local punk bands. At the age of 18 he switched to the electric bass and has been working as a professional musician since 1989 after completing his computer science and physics studies. He has lived in Switzerland since 1996.

Together with the nyckelharpa player Johan Hedin and the percussionist Fredrik Gille, he founded the trio Bazar Blå in Sweden in 1996 .

Together with the Persian harpist Asita Hamidi, who died in 2012, he founded the Bazaarpool in 2002, and was also involved in joint projects such as u. a. Asita Hamidi's Bazaar and Bazaaris active.

He has been working with Anouar Brahem since 2008 (The Astounding Eyes of Rita until 2009, Souvenance until 2014) and was also a member of Nik Bärtsch ’s RONIN's ritual groove collective until 2012 and helped coined the term Zen-Funk.

In 2013 he founded the Trio Amiira with Samuel Rohrer on drums and Klaus Gesing on bass clarinet and soprano saxophone and in 2014 the formation NEN with Mats Eser, Chrigel Bosshard and Ania Losinger with their self-invented instrument Xala.

Meyer also works regularly with the Swiss composer and woodwind player Don Li and is occasionally a guest lecturer at the conservatories in Stockholm, Zurich, Bern, Lucerne and Lausanne.

In autumn 2017 his first solo album "Provenance" was released on ECM.
