Jomanda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jomanda (born May 5, 1948 in Deventer ; actually Johanna (Joke) Wilhelmina Petronella Damman ) is a Dutch spiritualist and, according to her own statement, a healing medium . It is in 15th place on the list of quacks published by the Dutch Association against Quackery .

In her youth, Damman suffered from a skin disease, which medical professionals allegedly failed to treat. Only after a visit to a paranormal healer is she said to have been healed. Then she resumed her career as a ballet dancer and ran ballet schools. She also worked as a paranormal healer. Later she finished the ballet and devoted herself full-time to the vocation as a medium. According to her own statement, she has the following gifts: she is clairvoyant, feeling and knowing. She should get help from her deceased father and other forces in the 'divine world'. Various sources say that she is a fanatical supporter of the paranormal writer Jozef Rulof.

Career

Damman became known all over Holland in 1991 after appearing on television. From 1992 to 1999 she held healing events in Tiel , which were attended by many. At these meetings, she irradiated bottles with tap water, which was supposed to be healing .

From 1992 to 2002 Damman presented a radio program on the commercial broadcaster Noordzee 100.7 FM . Listeners could have water bottles irradiated by placing them in front of the radio.

criticism

In 1994 an article by journalist Anja Toetenel appeared in the Dutch daily De Telegraaf . She had infiltrated the paranormal world of Jomanda for a year and made her findings public. In summary, little is said to be right with Jomanda's methods. Toetenel later wrote about the financial gain of the medium and about people who claimed to have been victims of Jomanda. Although Damman threatened legal proceedings, this counter-action did not take place.

In 2000, Jomanda was the subject of two television programs. In the first broadcast she was asked to carry out a double-blind test with the jet of water . In the second broadcast, she was approached about the fact that she had published a recipe made from cod liver oil, honey and sage leaves as a cure for cancer on her website .

After the death of actress Sylvia Millecam in 2001, Jomanda got back into the gossip about the role she had played during Millecam's illness. The Health Service Inspectorate reported this in 2004.
